Everything runs in this tab: decoding, trimming, the AI model, the GIF encoder. The page has no upload endpoint. You do not have to take our word for it:
- Watch the network. Open DevTools → Network (
⌥⌘I/F12), then convert a clip. The only traffic is code from this site, two fonts fromfonts.googleapis.com/fonts.gstatic.com, and, if you use Analyze, the model weights fromhuggingface.co— all downloaded once and cached by your browser. Nothing carries your video. The counter above, Uploaded: 0 bytes, sums every request body this page sends. - Lock the network. Once ffmpeg (and the model, if you want Analyze) is loaded, press Lock network. It inserts a Content-Security-Policy that forbids every further connection from this page, and Chrome enforces it: any attempt shows as a blocked request in DevTools. Converting keeps working. The lock lasts until you reload.
- Go fully offline. After one visit the site installs an offline cache. Turn on airplane mode, or set DevTools → Network → throttling to Offline, reload, and convert again.
The lock is set by this page, so the independent checks are steps 1 and 3. "Add to zgif" hands the GIF to the extension on your own machine; sending it to a chat is your action in that app.
Get the extension
zgif is a Chrome extension that keeps your GIF collection and inserts them on chat.zalo.me and
Facebook Messenger (messenger.com, facebook.com/messages), with :name: completion in the composer. It is not on the Chrome Web Store, so install it unpacked:
- Download zgif-extension.zip
- Unzip it somewhere permanent (Chrome loads it from that folder).
- Open
chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked, pick the folder. - Reload this page: the Add to zgif button appears after converting. On Zalo or Messenger, use the blue GIF button or type
:name.
